Ketner's Mill, which is a craft fair just outside Chattanooga, TN, was a couple weekends ago, and I couldn't pass up an opportunity to putz around a market on a beautiful fall day.
The old mill |
There were craftsmen of all kinds: ironworkers, quilters, woodworkers, artists, jewelry makers, and even some furniture builders...
One vendor was sitting with a log in his lap, and he was chiseling it into a long, rectangular shape. He was carving old-fashioned dough bowls (which I may or may not have an obsession with), so we stopped to watch him work. It was pretty awesome to watch him hammering/chiseling away on raw wood from his pile of logs.
We left with a small bowl made from butternut.
I love the knots in the wood...
that he engraves each creation with his name and the type of wood he used...
and the marks left by the chisel...
I also love having something from a local craftsman in our home.
Happy Sunday!
