Craft Shelves

I have been on the hunt for crafting storage ever since we moved to Chattanooga and left the awesome built-ins in Little Rock...

The problem is that I am cheap... and that there is a lot of wall space above my desk in the new house, so some shelves or wall units are too small for the space.

But you can find anything on Craigslist.  I found a newer shelving unit for $40. Sold!

The shelves are not very deep (only around 3.5 inches), so every container had to be fairly small.  I found all the glass jars at Hobby Lobby for half off.  I saved money by shopping in the glassware aisle (where, after the 50% off, the containers ranged from $1-$2.50 or so) rather than the craft organization section (where a set of 4 plastic containers was $9 or $10).

I have beads and various types of sewing needles in the little jars...

...buttons, bobbins, and larger supplies in the medium-sized jars...

...and large paper tags and glue sticks in the two largest mason jars...

I found small wooden boxes for $2 each.  They're perfect for fabric, twine, and upholstery webbing.

The taller metal containers are ideal for hiding supplies that are visually less appealing (piping, smaller fabric scraps, etc.)

I even had room left over for some not-so-utilitarian things...

Having these supplies within reach will certainly make sewing and crafting easier.  Before, if I needed something, I would have to get up and go to the closet in the other corner of the room.  I also may be more inclined to work in my office because the shelving unit has made this wall a prettier...

...and hey, if I have to work at home, I might as well be in a pretty room, right?

Yes, I think I could work in here.

Happy Sunday!

  1. This is shelf is perfect for storing craft supplies. I'm asking myself right now why I've never thought of storing my glue sticks in a mason jar. Genius idea!

  2. Visiting from FFF. What a great space! Seeing your organized craft supplies is just the inspiration I need to finish organizing my own.

  3. That is a great little storage piece and I really like your white desk.
