Yard Sale Finds This Weekend

Saturdays around the Needham household go like this:

I wake up early and run (working in a hospital has cured me of ever sleeping past 6), water the plants, take the dog for a walk, then wake Grant up and coerce him into getting out of bed.

Me: You want to go yard sale-ing?
Grant: unintelligible grunt
Me: I'll get you Chik-fil-a...
Grant: Ok, I'll be ready in a minute.

And we're off...

I love that I never know what I'm going find while yard sale-ing.

Exhibit A: The first yard sale we head to is selling potted plants (nice ones, actually) and high-end Frye boots. Weird.  We bought a 2-ft lavender plant and a sweet potato vine for $2. We have lots of full-sun areas in our yard, so they'll be perfect.

At the next yard sale, I found two perfectly sized salvaged windows from an old house in the Hillcrest area.  They were $25 each. More than I wanted to spend, so I employed my negotiating skills: I take out two $20 bills, hold them out, and say, "I'll give you $40 for both." The lady was a tough negotiator! She says she has to have $25 apiece. I say, "I have the $40 right here...." Nope, stuck on $50. Ugh.  She won't take less, and these are the first windows I've seen in my price range that don't have peeling lead paint, broken glass, and are the right size. Ok, fine. I think it was worth it...

They are flanking the windows in the dining room for now.
We just hung them from a hook using a little leftover twine.

Happy yard sale-ing!
